Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner Jonathan Milan said: “I think I started sprinting a bit too early. At the end, this throw of the bike made the difference in my favour on the photo-finish. I’m really happy with the result. I was looking forward to this. Echelons always make races more interesting. They are important ahead of the classics to get used to how to move. We were always inside [the first group], we were ready for them. We moved in a perfect way today. It’s easier with this team to deliver this kind of result. It hurt the legs and made a bit of a selection. We’re here to win as much as possible”.
